Questions and answers

Plain answers. If yours is not here, email storeknockofficial@gmail.com and a person will reply within one business day.

What does Storeknock do?

We get small consumer brands onto the shelves of independent retailers. We find the stores, score them, write to each one individually from your own email address, follow up at most twice, and hand you every reply. You approve each email before it goes out, answer the stores that write back, and ship the orders. It is a service run by people, delivered entirely over email.

Who is it for, and who is it not for?

Brands doing roughly $100,000 to $2 million a year, mostly through their own online store, who want to be in independent shops and do not have a sales team. Our first three categories are specialty food and drink (no alcohol), home and gift, and beauty and personal care.

We do not take alcohol, because in the US it has to go through a distributor, and we do not take products that need cold chain, a prescription, or age verification.

How long until I see results?

Plan in months, not weeks. In the case we ran for our own brand, the stores that ordered took 3 to 9 months from the first email to the first order. The first two to three weeks of the service are onboarding and mailbox warm up, so cold emails start after that. Every Monday you see exactly where things stand: sent, replied, samples requested, and the orders you have told us about.

Do you promise a number of orders or replies?

No. Nobody honest can. What we commit to is the work and the reporting: 20 new stores and 15 follow-ups every business day you approve, every email address verified before sending, a bounce rate under 3% on monthly average (if we miss it, we resend the same number free that month), a reply from us within one business day, and a report every Monday.

The figures from our own brand are on the home page for context, not as a forecast.

Will this get my brand flagged as spam?

This is the risk we spend the most effort on. We send from a dedicated address on your domain, not your main inbox, with SPF, DKIM and DMARC set up. The mailbox warms up for two weeks before any cold email goes out and never sends more than 35 emails a day. Every address is verified before sending and we only send to addresses that come back valid.

Each email is written for one store, includes your physical address and a one line way to opt out, and a reply or an opt out stops the sequence at once. No store gets more than three emails from us, ever.

What exactly do you send to stores?

A first email of four short paragraphs: where your brand comes from, what you make, why this particular store (with one specific fact about that store), and one clear next step. It carries one product photo you provide. Then up to two short follow-ups in the same thread, five and fourteen days later, with no image. That is the whole sequence.

You approve every email, and during onboarding you edit the templates until they sound like you.

Where do the stores come from? Do you buy lists?

We do not buy lists. We build our own store library category by category from public sources: retailer directories, the stockist pages of brands similar to yours, Google business listings, Instagram, and local press. Every store is looked at individually and checked again before it goes on your list. Anything not verified in the last 90 days is not used. The full method is on the how we choose stores page.

How much of my time does it take?

About 10 to 15 minutes a day to approve the day's emails, plus the time you spend replying to stores that answer. Onboarding takes about an hour to fill in the brand facts template and a few clicks to authorize the sending address.

If you would rather not approve daily, you can authorize us in writing to send stores above a score you set and only review the rest.

Can I try one month?

Yes. The monthly service is month to month with no minimum term, and you can stop at any time. Keep in mind that the first two to three weeks are setup and warm up, so a single month is mostly onboarding plus the first batches. If you want to see our research before committing, the retailer list pack is a one time purchase.

Right now the first two brands that qualify get the full service free for 60 days. The conditions are on the home page.

Do we need to get on a call?

No. Everything runs over email and one questionnaire. The written assessment you receive after the questionnaire is our first meeting: it tells you how we read your brand, and you reply with corrections. Every email we send you ends with a line saying what, if anything, you need to do. We reply to any email within one business day.

What do I need to provide?
  • Product facts: product line, wholesale and retail prices, minimum order, sample policy, and brand story, using a template that takes about an hour.
  • An email address on your own domain for sending. We walk you through it.
  • Ten to fifteen minutes a day to approve, or written authorization for us to approve on your behalf.
  • One person who will reply to stores and ship orders.
  • A list of the stores you already sell to and any stores we must not contact.
  • At least one product photo.
Who replies to the stores?

You do. When a store writes back, we forward it the same day with a summary of who they are, why we chose them, what they are asking for, and a suggested reply you can use or rewrite. We stop all follow-ups to that store. From there the conversation, the pricing, and the shipping are yours. We never negotiate or reply on your behalf.

Will you contact my existing stockists or my distributor's territory?

No. Before any list is built we remove the stores you already sell to, any store inside a distributor's or rep's territory you tell us about, and anyone on your do not contact list. If you sell on a wholesale marketplace, we exclude the retailers you already work with there as well.

Who owns the contact list and the data?

The contact list, the conversations, and the replies generated for your brand belong to you. You get the CSV at any time and take it with you when you stop. The scorecard, the research method, and our own store library stay ours. We never sell data, and we only use your results in anonymized form with your permission. Details are on the privacy page.

What happens if I stop?

Tell us by email. Within two business days you get a handover: the full contact list as CSV, every batch and report, the stores in conversation with their status, and the stores still in a follow-up sequence so you can finish them yourself if you want. We do not try to talk you out of it. We ask one question about why, and that is all.
